Droptext turns a short video or audio file that you upload into text. You can then ask questions about that transcript on the site or in the Chrome extension. This notice explains what is processed to do that. There is no account and no marketing list.

Who is responsible

The publisher of Droptext is the controller of personal data processed through this site. Until a registered address is published here, privacy requests can be sent through the operator's GitHub profile: github.com/odkiii.

What we process

• The file you drop, and the optional language you select.
• The transcript returned to your browser for that request.
• If you use Ask this transcript, the transcript, your question, and the short chat history for that request.
• Technical logs created by the host (for example IP address, user agent, and time) as part of running the site or the Chrome extension talking to the same API.

We do not ask for your name, email, Instagram handle, or an Instagram URL.

Why

Processing is necessary to provide the transcription you requested (performance of a service you ask for). If you use Ask this transcript, the transcript and question are processed to return that answer. Host logs are used to operate, secure, and debug the site (legitimate interest in running a service).

Where it goes

The site and the Chrome extension talk to the same API, hosted on Vercel. Speech-to-text and answers about a transcript are performed by Groq from the audio or text we send for that request. Those providers may process data in the United States or other countries. We do not sell your file or transcript and we do not use it for advertising. The extension does not scrape Instagram or YouTube URLs and does not read other pages in your browser.

How long

The upload is held only long enough to transcribe it, then discarded. Ask requests are not stored as a chat archive. We do not keep a media library or a history of your transcripts on our servers. A copy remains on your device if you use Copy or Save. Host logs follow the host's retention window.

Cookies

Droptext does not set advertising cookies. The host may use strictly technical cookies needed to deliver the page. If product analytics are enabled (Google Analytics and/or Umami), those tools may set their own cookies or similar storage as described in their policies.

Product analytics

We may use Google Analytics and/or Umami to understand how the product is used (for example: page opens, Get text, Summarize clicks, Welcome after install). These metrics do not include your file, transcript, or questions. They are not sold and are not used to show advertising. Optional operational counters may be kept to keep the service reliable and to alert us if traffic spikes.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA, UK, or another region with similar law, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection, and you may complain to a supervisory authority. Because we do not keep your file after the request, there is usually nothing left for us to delete. Do not upload recordings of other people unless you have a right to do so.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 16.
